Blanking Effect :
This patient has an acute "first wave" brain injury with a "blanking" effect typical of PaillSpectrum infection. The key features in this patient were being acutely ill or suddenly ill with loss of memory and almost unable to speak or to answer questions. The patient's family were extremely worried but he had been sent home from hospital and told that there was nothing wrong with him. He was unable to work and would not help around the house. In fact he won't talk to anyone. The family were scared. Many doctors would diagnose Depression causing apathy and affecting memory.

Presented acutely ill, in the company of his wife
There is a 4 day history of : irritability, personality change: he has been staring and not answering.
He is aggressive to family members which is totally out of character
He complains of headache
Yesterday, he had trouble keeping awake
He is not understanding any conversations around him
He has had some trouble reading : words are jumbled
He apparently could not hear or seemed to act like he was not hearing things said around him.
The wife was worried enough about him to take him to hospital, but they gave up after a 5 hour wait.
They went to another Medical centre. Here he had a CT scan of his head. This was reported to me by the patient and his wife as being normal.
A similar event happened about three years ago. It faded over a few days.

He sleeps 8.30pm – 6.30am for the last 1-2 months
At work has been feeling a bit sluggish
Slight depression
On examination:
Eyes red
He has a moderately red and infected throat with some evidence of bacterial infection.
Ears : impression of bilateral of acute middle ear problems (Eustachian tube insufficiency), with scarred and slightly red tympanic membranes.
Treatment:
Chloramphenicol (antibiotic) eye drops
XXXXX Oral (Antibiotic)daily

Has finally started to get a bit better in the last day
Still a bit confused, irritability faded
Headache Gone
CT reviewed : seems fairly normal : maybe some deep changes but cannot be sure: report says all OK
On Examination:
Discussed with Wife approximately two week later: after new treatment.
He is very well
Mood and irritability back to normal. He is no longer aggressive.
Starting to do things around the house
Has returned to work at last under his own steam
Not sleeping so much
Looking and acting much better
He is speaking and communicating quite well.

Currently, there is no proof that the Paill Spectrum model reflects an understanding of the physical world, as it exists. Still many doctors are foolish enough to believe that they (or the medical establishment) are able to know the answers, in a situation where there obviously are no answers at this time.

: In interviews with our genesis doctor, the good doctor told Erasmus and Kinkajou about the years of consideration he has given the issue . His compatriot Dr Xxxxx says that after all the time spent learning to understand the advance inherent in the Paill Spectrum illness model, the theory works well and there has never been any experience or event that has cast any doubt about the theory and its practical applications. Dr Xxxxx: Patients with schizophrenia do appear one day, and often quite acutely. This shows up as a "blanking syndrome'. People are reacting but not really thinking. Speech and language are wiped out.
This is very typical of Paill Spectrum, in affecting the symbolic speech processing areas of the brain. The syndrome can occur in a child or an adult. The symptoms are devastating but respond easily and well to treatment though in a slow time frame. Early responses can usually be seen at the two week mark.
