Kinkajou: So what can you do to improve your mental health?
You are starting to feel very ill. In fact you are getting so ill, that your friends are suggesting that you go to see a doctor and maybe start some treatment. Are these other people right about your problems? Why are people picking on you at work or school? As far as you can see nothing has changed. However, you are finding that you are getting crankier with time. You are becoming less tolerant of common life events. They all seem to get on your nerves and whether make you angry or depressed.
Erasmus : Using another example, perhaps from an external point of view, you are OK but perhaps you are concerned for a friend or lover or just someone you work with who seems to be not quite the person you used to know. They keep on forgetting to do things or their work is getting a lot sloppier. They were told or warned about doing certain things but they insist that they were never told. You begin to wonder why they would lie about something like what they were told to do. You know they must be lying because you were there when they were told. Yet they still insist that they were never told and that it never happened. Should you believe this person? Is there something wrong with them? Are they just bad people? Are they just sick people?
From a Bird’s Eye point of view: What does it feel like when your life is looking bleak and grim? People see their life falling apart. They may experience feelings of depression, they may experience feeling bad, feeling sad, life being black or grim or bleak, and even feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness or uselessness. Anger frustration or rage often feature.
All this in a scenario when no one looking at the person can see that there is anything wrong with the person. Many people just don’t even believe that the person with all these problems is even sick. People (patients) begin to doubt themselves, to doubt that there may even be anything wrong with themselves. They find that if they say what they are feeling, people begin to look at them unsympathetically. They learn to not say anything and to keep quiet. It comes as almost a welcome relief when the doctor or other health professional tells them that there is something wrong with them. They will often be told that they must be depressed, even though they do not feel depressed. Many people accept this since they do not know what it is to be depressed since they have never felt depressed before. They must be depressed since the health professional says it, so that what they are feeling is what it actually feels like to be depressed. (A sort of circular logic)
Kinkajou: Stress is often blamed for many problems.
The answer to stress is relaxation. But are things really this simple? If things really are this simple, why doesn’t that relaxation solve all the problems?
The issue of maintaining good mental health is obviously a complex one. Many of the explanations you hear are common, and are accepted by many people, yet do not help many people to get better or to stay better.
Kinkajou: So how do you know you may have a problem?
DR Xxxxx : Traditionally, if you feel depressed, if you feel anxious or if you are thinking very strange thoughts, you have a problem. The Paill Spectrum model of illness proposes a different answer to this question. There are many very important symptoms of illness that are not even recognised as symptoms of illness, yet they will be present in many if not all people with many of these conditions referred to above, (according to the Paill Spectrum model).
DR Xxxxx : Start at the beginning: In the Paill Spectrum model important symptoms of illness are:
Kinkajou: What symptom patterns may ill people have?
DR Xxxxx : Scenario 1: Anger and arguments are featuring in many aspects of your life. People irritate you so much that your reactions are making them walk on eggshells around you. You have perhaps done something that you have never done before in terms of punching or hitting someone. People are starting to become afraid of you. You are in trouble with the law. Policemen or your boss always seem to give you are hard time.
These symptoms often come as a package deal. Many people who find their life is unravelling will find that many of these things are happening to them. They often find that they feel that they are helpless to control the changes in their life.
DR Xxxxx : Scenario 2: You are feeling hopeless or worthless. There seems to be nothing worth living for. Life is bad. Lots of bad things are happening in your life, that just doesn’t seem to be happening to anyone else. There is nothing in life that is enjoyable anymore. Your mood flips from fairly happy to crying uncontrollably when even trivial things seem to go wrong around you. People often feel sorry for you because you seem so fragile.
DR Xxxxx : Scenario 3: Life is beginning to scare you. You are feeling jittery and fearful at times, often for seconds only. You heart seems to grip your chest and squeeze. Your stomach is knotting up at times. You may find you need to run to the toilet often. You sometimes feel that you can’t breathe. The sky seems to be pressing down on you and you need to run for comfort into an enclosed space. Life seems to be too much of a challenge and is too hard for you to cope with.
DR Xxxxx : Scenario 4: A persistent thought that you realize can’t be true has come into your lie and you can’t get rid of it no matter what you do. You may feel that the black tiles on the supermarket floor will swallow you. You may feel that you just have to go back to check that the door you locked on leaving home really is checked. Yet no matter how often you check it, you still find you can’t be certain that the door is closed.
If any of the above scenarios seem to apply to you or to someone you know, it is likely that a true psychiatric diagnosis exists.
DR Xxxxx : Yet there are other symptoms which are not regarded as important, which can be very significant in telling you that illness exists. The Paill Spectrum model of disease would suggest important but often unrecognised symptoms are:

Erasmus : Illness always happens for a reason.
Psychiatric conditions always happen for a reason.
Modern medicine gives no answers and explains no reason why you are ill.
But there is a cause for psychiatric illness.
Modern medicine treats the symptoms and not the cause.
DR Xxxxx :The cause is not a dysfunction or imbalance of chemical inside your head.
The cause is neurones dying from illness inside your head, hence creating a chemical imbalance inside your head.
Modern medicines just put more neural electricity down the wires, essentially supercharging the remaining living neurones, forcing them to work harder.
Modern medicines treat nix; they just cover up the symptoms.
If you don’t treat it, you will get progressively sicker.
You will get angry, irritable and unreasonable, more obvious to the people around you than to yourself.
You will get mad / bad ideas or compulsions.
Your relationships will fall apart.
Your memory will fade.
DR Xxxxx : If you don’t treat your problem, you will end up alone, friendless and “not quite right”. Modern medicine will sedate specific parts of your brain, so you stop worrying about where your health is going.
Paill Spectrum is a new theory explaining the cause of a number of illness symptoms including psychiatric illness. It explains symptoms, signs, diagnosis and treatment.
You can improve your mental health.
You can also improve weight problems (somewhat), aches and pains and feelings of anger, irritability, hopelessness and worthlessness.
You are not mad. You are sick. You can fix the problem. Knowing the cause is everything.
The Paill Spectrum model of disease developed by the original Dr Xxxxx, is a new theory about disease and illness
Kinkajou: So what is the crux of all this?
DR Xxxxx : Paill spectrum causes all these symptoms and all these conditions.
One cause therefore one treatment.
The same treatment will make a difference for many symptoms and many illnesses.
There is only one disease causing all this misery in the Paill Spectrum theory.
DR Xxxxx : Doctors can prescribe medicines, but strangely they can’t make you better. So why do so many people flock to Naturopaths, even though they can’t prescribe medicines or pharmaceutical drugs to treat you. It is because Naturopaths, unlike doctors can make you better. Nutritional and dietary therapy (choosing healthy foods) can make a huge difference to your health. (So, what is really new in this statement to most of us?)
But if you want to preserve your health, you need to make the right decisions. Many of our health recommendations are based on what specific commercial interests are keen to sell us. “Good for You” in the Paill Spectrum model is a very specific thing. Many of the “healthy” recommendations made by friends or health professionals are potentially damaging to our health.
Choosing medicines that make you feel good, does not guarantee that they are good for you. Make sure you make the right decision for yourself as others have.

Disclaimer On the Paill Spectrum Model
The Paill Spectrum model fits in well with currently known and accepted medical opinion. The Paill Spectrum disease model pioneered by our genesis doctor Dr BXxxxx explains a great deal about how many idiopathic (cause unknown) medical conditions and events occur in the world we know. The model allows a number of predictions to be made regarding symptoms, prognosis, treatment and long term progression of many illnesses existing today.
