Autism Aspergers

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Autism Aspergers: New Treatment
This Web Page describes symptoms and signs of Autism (Autistic Spectrum Disorders) such as Aspergers. This family of medical conditions includes

In addition, the Paill Spectrum model predicts the finding of previously unknown and unrecognised symptoms such as dyslexic language problems, mood problems, anger and irritability, memory problems, poor memory, growing pains, balance problems, clumsiness and other symptoms. Many of these symptoms and signs are currently not recognised as being part of the disorder.

Autism Aspergers

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Aspergers is a member of a family of medical problems called the autistic spectrum disorders.  This family of medical problems includes Developmental delay, Speech delayed or delayed speech development, Children with poor language skills, Reading Difficulties, Problems with Mathematics, Learning Disorder, Speech, and Language disorders.  Socialisation problems, speech and language problems and unusual behaviour are all part of the Autism group definition.  Nutritional treatments are well known in the non-medical community but are generally not well accepted by the medical fraternity.  The Paill Spectrum predicts the finding of previously unknown and unrecognised symptoms such as dyslexic language problems, mood problems, memory problems, growing pains, balance problems and other symptoms.

Autism Aspergers . . . . . .

The Paill Spectrum model of disease as developed by Dr. Xxxxx
proposes new treatments for these conditions, that are distinctly
different from current medical opinions.

The radical new model pioneered by Dr. Xxxxx, that explains the
causes of many medical conditions that currently have no known cause.

The typical Asperger's child is a very strange little beast.
Not as lovely as this picture may have you believe. The
nature and extent of the deficits varies widely between patients.

Kinkajou Kinkajou: What is the Importance of the "Diagnosis of Developmental Disorders" in Changing Prognosis ?

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : There is considerable disagreement in the medical world as to what definition is needed to identify many of these conditions.  The tightest definition of Asperger’s Syndrome (symptoms and signs of illness), exists in the DSM IV TR. Aspergers’ is regarded as one of the Autistic Spectrum disorders. These children have difficulty learning in many areas of development such as language, speech, socialisation as well as balance and coordination problems. Back to Autism top

There are a number of variant definitions of Aspergers, authored by a number of other medical authorities.  Often these definitions are much looser in diagnostic terms.  Identification of Aspergers traits or Aspergers Syndrome is critical, as these traits or symptom clusters do respond to specific directed intensive educational therapies.  If the children can be identified as varying in abilities significantly from the age norm, educational measures can be instituted leading to a change in the final functional status of the child. Many doctors familiar with these conditions, are in favour of using a looser definition of "Aspergers traits", as the best way to ensure all these kids get the help they may require or may benefit from.

.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : The unique characteristic of children is that their abilities or skills are constantly developing.  Consequently, a “flat spot” in development is serious and needs to be investigated or diagnosed.  This child is not doing any worse with time, just not getting "better" with time. These may be regarded as early features of development delay or learning difficulties in children, and are typical of children with Aspergers or autism, in the Paill Spectrum model.

This creates problems in assessment.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : The underlying disease process according to the Paill Spectrum model , is the same in both.
The long-term complications are similar. Back to Autism top   The Paill Spectrum model says that in fact treatment can substantially alter the progress of the disease. You don't just have to sit there and watch you kids mind fuzz away. You can improve learning and disability if you treat the children. It needs to be the right treatment though.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Features of the Aspergers Syndrome includes such Symptoms as:

Social Behavioural Features / Symptoms:

Speech, Language or Communication Issues:

.

Unusual Behaviours:

Erasmus Erasmus : So children with Aspergers have problems with social behaviour, speech and language as well as unusual repetitive behaviours.

The Paill Spectrum model of disease as pioneered by Dr. Xxxxx points out that the Paill Spectrum syndrome affects development. The changes in development are unique to the age at which they occur, so the medical conditions that Paill Spectrum causes look different at the different age ranges. The standard medical model fails to appreciate the degree of mood changes and other Paill Spectrum symptoms that are common in patients with Autism or Aspergers. The Paill Spectrum model suggests that the symptoms of autism and Aspergers can be treated with a change in the long term outlook for these patients.

The only treatment for children with Aspergers currently is educational.
Medications for mood and behavioural problems achieve very little in the long term,
being predominantly symptomatic. Going Nowhere in Circles.

Erasmus Erasmus : The Paill Spectrum model predicts that substantial benefit can occur in a child's clinical state. The word "cure" is best not used for a number of reasons.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Genetic Factors in the Behavioural Developmental Disorders

Aspergers is believed to develop under three years of age.  There is a familial increased risk amongst siblings (brothers and sisters), of affected individuals.  However, the pattern of inheritance is complex or polygenic.  No single gene or group of genes appears to confer risk for appearance / progression of Aspergers or of Developmental delay.

Paill Spectrum has this same pattern of genetic risk in the development of the disorder. The genetic involvement can be readily predicted from the risk factors for Paill Spectrum disease progression.

There are no gene defects known to cause Aspergers or autism. That is because Autism or Aspergers are not due to genetic defects. Normal people have normal kids who develop problems due to agents to which they are exposed. Bad luck, but nutrition has a major role to play in underlining genetic susceptibilities.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Treatment of the Behavioural Developmental Disorders

There is no single effective symptomatic medical drug therapy, though a number of medications are used symptomatically.

Antiepileptic drugs such as Epilim (Sodium Valproate), Tegretol (Carbamazepine) can be used to control unusual bursts of behaviour.  Some doctors use antidepressants while others use sympathomimetic stimulants such as Dexamphetamine or Ritalin (Methylphenidate).  There is a modern trend for the use of antipsychotic medications (Risperidal, Zyprexa, Seroquel) in children with Autism or Aspergers, perhaps due to the presumed overlap with Attention Deficit disorders. The Paill Spectrum model would predict that these medications may improve the clinical features, but not the prognosis of the disorder. Modern medicines used today for Autism or Aspergers are little better than symptom patch ups.

The responses to the medications are variable with no alteration in long term prognosis in most of the studies done.  Exactly as the Paill Spectrum model of this disease would predict. Back to Autism top

One largely ignored therapy is the use of Essential Fatty Acids.  There is a good body of evidence advising the use of Omega-3 (Omega 3) and Omega-6 (Omega 6) oils over prolonged periods of time.  The work is often ignored, as many doctors are not very comfortable in the use of nutritional therapies. This type of treatment also takes very long periods of time to be effective. If you do the right treatment for a long time, there are often symptomatic improvements. Between today and next week, likely the treatment with Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils will make no noticeable difference at all. These "essential oils" need to be used in a specific protocol..

Symptomatic medications achieve better quick symptom responses and so are more often used in therapy. The problem is that the studies do not show any long term benefit with long term treatment by symptomatic medications. Again, exactly as the Paill Spectrum model would predict. ;-I

Kinkajou Kinkajou: Predictions from the Paill Spectrum Model on the Age of Onset of the Developmental Behavioural Disorders

Erasmus Erasmus : “Developmental Delays” in Dr. Xxxxx’s Paill Spectrum model, may occur up to puberty.  (i.e. Throughout the entire period of a child’s learning development).  The symptoms that are present in each individual patient, reflect the age when the disease begins or is most active, as well as reflecting the extent and distribution of the disease infective process. The current "medical" opinion is that there is no known cause for Aspergers or for developmental delay.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx :
The most common medical diagnosis made by most doctors
is that there appears to be nothing physically wrong with the child.

Yet, there is still something observed to be happening . Back to Autism top

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : The Paill Spectrum model makes a different prediction to the standard medical model.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Markers of Response to Treatment of the Developmental Behavioural Disorders in the Paill Spectrum Model

The Paill Spectrum disease model as pioneered by Dr. Xxxxx, suggests that many developmental problems including Aspergers Syndrome, The Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Developmental Disorders are caused by infection with the Paill Spectrum disease.  The presence of the disease can be detected by specific blood tests, responds to specific antibiotics, (documentable by an immune response to those same antibiotics) and is associated with other characteristic symptoms unique to the Paill Spectrum disease.  These other symptoms will also improve subtly and slowly but definitely with Paill Spectrum treatment.

It is critical to treat people with effective therapy.  Treated children resume their normal growth in abilities and skills. They do not stabilise or "flat spot" their developmental progress. They do not drift vaguely slowly better with time. Existing injury may not be able to be fully reversed.

Children can grow out of their problems if educated correctly though. Most teachers and educational professionals are very familiar with remedial education for children with learning difficulties. The difficulty is knowing which specific deficits the child may have, so that appropriate specific education can be given to the child, appropriate to the child's needs. :-]] Back to Autism top

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : In the PaillSpectrum model, “Crisis" events will be seen. Previously well children often show rapid stepwise patches of deterioration followed by prolonged periods of recovery, then further deterioration events.  The “facies” (facial appearance) of a child in crisis is quite distinctive.  They have a flat unresponsive appearance, often with a dearth of speech. Crisis events can best be picked in a child the doctor or carer knows well. Unfortunately, most people tend to worry less about quiet children, not more. The parent who insists there is something wrong with their quiet uncomplaining child is a rare gem. Back to Autism top

Autistic Spectrum illnesses

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Age of Onset & Prognosis

Many of these symptoms develop with and are more obvious with long-term illness.  Children can develop the disorder after three years of age, according to the DSM IV TR.  However the later the age of onset, generally the milder the symptoms.

The Paill Spectrum model predicts that the disease has typically been active for some time before there are symptoms. The symptoms relate to the level of infection and the age of the child. It is probably one of the more common reasons that doctors typically have so much trouble deciding between the diagnoses of ADD / ADHD and Aspergers. Back to Autism top

.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Clinical Overlays in Clinical Presentation of Illness

In the Paill Spectrum model, many of these children develop ADD or ADHD like behaviours over time.  Again, parental training and personality type (Enneagram (Synonyms: Annaegram, Ennaegram, Anagram, Anaegram, Annaegram)), influence the perceived level of deficit. Some children naturally do lots of things quickly. Others are slower and others are more domineering. All these traits have little to do with Paill Spectrum, but lots to do with human behaviour. Paill Spectrum may highlight personality traits, by increasing impulsiveness.

There are substantial personality overlays.  (Annaegrams, Ennaegrams give the personality subtypes as Self-pres, Sexual, and finally Social) . Self-Preservation (self-pres) personality subtype children have a much-reduced need for social interaction compared to other children. Social subtype children naturally seek out and become much more involved in interpersonal interactions, than children of the self-pres subtype. So different patients can begin to look quite different.  What is normal for one child may be distinctly abnormal for another, based on simple genetics. Behaviour that is is normal for a self-pres subtype child, may be an indicator of severe personality problems in a social subtype child.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Tracking Illness Response to Treatment in the Paill Spectrum Model

Other symptoms of Paill Spectrum will often be found if searched for.  Distinct blood test changes will also be found.  Patients respond to both nutritional and antibiotic therapies.  Relying solely on antibiotic therapy is unwise with Paill SpectrumThe Paill Spectrum model of disease as developed by Dr. Xxxxx suggests that current psychiatric medications may assist with some of the behavioural quirks associated with the condition, in giving symptomatic relief in much the same way that Paracetamol (Panadol) gives relief from headaches or fever.  The medications make behaviours rapidly better.  The psychiatric medications do not change the progress of the Aspergers / Autism traits and do not change the progression of the developmental problems.

There is a large body of medical research that has found that many of the psychoactive (psychiatric) medications do not change prognosis for children with behavioural disorders such as Aspergers, in the long term. Back to Autism top

learning and education become a Stairway Complex for a child with aspergers
Aspergers causes a complex series of problems in children. Even finding what is wrong can be a major challenge. The path of diagnosis and help is a very twisted one for most parents and teachers.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Effect of Treatment of Developmental Behavioural Disorders on Prognosis, in the Paill Spectrum Model

There should be no blame placed on parents, teachers, or carers of affected children, if the educational remedial system does not help the affected children. While education can assist children with their problems, at the end of the day, these children do have real physical problems, as evidenced by their behaviour. Its not just a result of bad parenting. According to the PaillSpectrum model, it is not a result of bad teaching. The children's problems will be made worse by bad parenting or teaching, but they need a lot more help than average anyway.

There is no magic cure for people who have a long history of Aspergers Syndrome or the Autistic Spectrum disorders.  The damage has already been done.  Without treatment however, this Paill Spectrum condition continues to progress.  Educational type therapies do influence prognosis and in the long term will improve the child's level of functioning. Nutritional therapies have been tried with mixed success, by many parents of these children. Often by trial and error, these parents often do surprisingly better than their medical practitioners. Back to Autism top

The Paill Spectrum model gives a plan for treatment of these children by nutritional therapy and will predict the timeline and the expected extent of a treatment recovery. :-()

Kinkajou Kinkajou: What does the Paill Spectrum Model predict will happen to kids who are not treated?

In the very long term, say forty or fifty years, they may even lose enough memory to develop forms of dementia. Dr. Xxxxx is guarded in his comments regarding Paill Spectrum and dementia due to the long time frames for illness development and the impossibility of sufficiently long follow up to decide the issue one way or the other. The model states that memory loss and memory distortion or cross-linking can indeed become quite severe in elderly Paill Spectrum affected patients .Back to Autism top

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : Treatment of Developmental Behavioural Disorders in the Paill Spectrum Model

In the Paill Spectrum model, treatment comes as a package deal.  All of the types of nutritional and antibiotic therapy are critical to the long-term treatment success.  Bizarre events may occur with treatment, though predominantly with second line therapies.  The therapies promoted on this web site are freely promoted because they are the safest first line treatments that can change the course of the Paill Spectrum illness causing the Autism or Aspergers like symptoms.  The Paill Spectrum model of disease as developed by Dr. Xxxxx suggests that these are signposts on the road to recovery, not as reasons to abandon treatment. The key with the Paill Spectrum model is knowing what to expect and why. The model predicts these events well. Back to Autism top

Erasmus Erasmus : Many people are terrified that their child may have Aspergers, a member of the autism family of illnesses.  They spend much of their spare time running to lots of different medical specialists and allied health people for treatment. Yet they actually in spite of all their busy ways, have achieved nothing in terms of altering the progress of the illness.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx : True unfortunately. Education is useful. But to kill the organism causing the progressive brain damage would probably be better. This family of medical conditions includes autism, Aspergers, developmental delay, speech and language delays, poor reading skills, reading difficulties, cannot read, cannot spell, cannot do maths, learning difficulties, being  retarded social behaviour problems of children at school and in the playground.

Dr XxxxxDR Xxxxx :The Paill Spectrum model also predicts that often other symptoms or conditions would be present. These include: dyslexia, ADD or ADHD, mood problems, anger and irritability, memory problems, poor memory, growing pains, balance problems, clumsiness and other symptoms. (e.g.  Abdominal pain in children, is often a good reliable symptom).

Understanding the disease means that the progress of the disease can be altered. A child can regain their future and parents can regain their hope. Knowing what to do and why always matters.

Erasmus Erasmus : The role of a new model of illness, called Paill Spectrum in the causation of many diseases, symptoms and conditions with no currently known cause is discussed. We also look at the value and importance of nutritional treatment, the right supplements and diet in controlling this illness. They can indeed be surprisingly effective.
